(AfricaNewswire.Net, May 16, 2013 ) Grand Baie, Mauritius -- In a new survey released, it appears that women head out on vacation more often than men. According to the numbers, women vacation every 10 months, while men find their way to holiday only once per 12 full months, according to the annual travelers survey conducted by Spring Hill Suites hotel.

The survey noted that 50% of Americans enjoy a last-minute holiday, waiting up until the day before packing for their extended vacation. Men procrastinate such a chore more than their female counterparts, which is likely a shock to no one. Overall, 54% of men wait until the last minute, while 46% of women wait.

The survey was conducted in March by the Kelton research company, who polled over 1,000 Americans over the age of 18. There was a margin of error of 3%, plus or minus.

Travelers who have children in tow tend to go on vacation more often than those without children. The number of the former group nearly cuts the latter group in half, with eight months and 14 months being the respective average.

Nearly 20%, or one out of every five, who were surveyed stated that they feel the need for vacation within one month of a set routine being established. On average, those who are surveyed state they can enjoy their daily routine for nearly six months before they must have a holiday.

The numbers compiled show that over half of the Americans who chose United States' cities for their trips enjoyed “going off the beaten path”. Families were more likely to visit off-the-beaten-path destinations as compared to those who did not have children.

Over a third of all those surveyed used social media to learn about possible vacationing spots that they were previously unaware of.

The Weather Channel wants to use it exclusively, and is seeking to gain allowance by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers for its use. AccuWeather and other companies now want to prevent that from occurring, and have each filed an objection with the international Chamber of Commerce in order to block the action from occurring.

The stakes are certainly high due to weather being one of the most accessed pieces of information on the internet. The section exceeds even news and sports, and is something that affects a great many individuals lives.

ICANN is now considering the applications for domains and names, which include everything from dot-AAA to to dot-Zulu.

(AfricaNewswire.Net, April 06, 2013 ) Cape Town, South Africa -- The use of issuing SSL certificates for the internal domain names under unqualified extensions could prove to endanger the general privacy and integrity of HTTPS communications for generic top-level domains (gTLDs) that are fast approaching. This, according to a security advisory from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

The recent advisory was finalized by ICANN's new Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) and has warned that the existing SSL certificates that have been issued for non-public domain names, such as those utilized to identify servers inside networks set as private, may be utilized to overtake HTTPS traffic for true domain names as the new gTLDs become operational. ICANN has overseen the internet's top-level domain name space since its inception.

SSAC has given an example of the SSL certificate issued by the Certificate Authority (CA) to Australian retailer Quicksilver for its webmail.quicksiler.com.au domain. The certificate is valid for alternative non-public domain names such as qsahub01, qsauhub02, and autodiscover.sea.quicksilver.corp.

The .dorp domain is an extension that has been utilized internally on the private corporate network for quite some time; however, it is currently being considered for public use and gTLD down the road, according to ICANN's website.

"If an attacker obtains a certificate before the new TLD is delegated, he/she could surreptitiously redirect a user from the original site to the attacker site, present his certificate and the victim would get the Transport Layer Security/SSL (TLS/SSL) lock icon," the SSAC said in the advisory. "This poses a significant risk to the privacy and integrity of HTTPS communications as well as other protocols that use X.509 certificates (e.g. TLS/SSL-based email communication)."

As a matter of public record, in September of 2005, Mr. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was arrested in London on charges of money laundering. He was arraigned and awaiting trial when he suddenly fled in a mysterious manner to Nigeria where as a governor, he had immunity from prosecution. This led to an international arrest warrant (still pending) that was placed on him by the UK authorities.

While he escaped to Nigeria, due to the mounting international pressures, the Bayelsa State Assembly courageously impeached Mr. Alamieyeseigha for the crimes of corruption, which paved the way for his prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for which he pled guilty and served a short jail term in Nigeria.

In its Press Release of June 28, 2012, the US Department of Justice (Office of Public Affairs) declared it had “forfeited $401,931 in assets traceable to Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha…in a Massachusetts brokerage fund.”

It further stated: “In a separate pending civil forfeiture case filed in the District of Maryland, the Justice Department is seeking forfeiture of additional property traceable to Alamieyeseigha, a private residence worth more than $600,000 in Rockville, MD. The complaint alleges that the property was involved in money laundering.”

It is noteworthy that when Mr. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was governor of Bayelsa State, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was his deputy governor. And when Mr. Alamieyeseigha was impeached as governor - for financial crimes by his State Assembly, Goodluck Jonathan who was then his Deputy Governor became the Governor, and later the president of Nigeria.

Whereas Africa Monitor does not question the powers of a President to grant pardons to deserving felons under the Nigerian constitution, it believes that this particular pardon was given (in quid pro quo) as a personal favor by President Jonathan to a one-time benefactor, which is detrimental to the nascent democracy and rule of law in Nigeria.

The ill-conceived pardon has drawn international criticism, especially from wide segments of Nigerians who feel that the President has betrayed them by setting back the fight against corruption in their country.

By international statistics, Nigeria is one quarter of the entire continent of Africa and has the highest number of its citizens currently residing in the United States than any other African nation. Thus, if Nigeria fails as a nation, the impact would be unbearable for the world, hence the reason to hold the government of Nigeria to a much higher standard of probity and accountability for Africa’s sake in particular, and for the world in general.
