Earlier this week, the company made significant headway in efforts to raise cash through asset sales in Asia this week, nearing agreements in Japan and Hong Kong that could net up to $20 billion, according to reports.

A pact to sell its two Japanese life-insurance units to Prudential Financial Inc., potentially fetching $4 billion to $5 billion, could be settled within days, barring any last- minute snags, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

Allied Irish Banks, plc. (ADR) (NYSE:AIB) slid 0.65% to $1.54 on over 4.45 million shares after it created its new 52-week low of $1.50. Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. together with its subsidiaries (collectively referred to as the AIB Group or the Group), conducts retail and commercial banking business in Ireland. It also provides corporate lending and capital markets activities from its head office at Bankcentre and from Dublin's International Financial Services Centre.

U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) rose 2.70% to close at $22.41 after 25.74 million shares of trade. U.S. Bancorp is a multi-state financial services holding company.
