AFRICANEWSWIRE.NET (February, 18 2012) Browser extensions like AdBlock have been around for years. They remove ads from websites and give users a cleaner, ad-free browsing experience. TopLine is a browser extension based on a similar concept, but with a key difference: Rather than removing ads, TopLine runs in the background and replaces normal ads with ads from the TopLine network. TopLine receives money from advertisers and shares ad revenue with its users.
TopLine is a startup headquartered in Los Angeles, CA. It was founded by 21 year-old Ronald Bell and 19 year-old Arthur Aivazian; two young entrepreneurs who spent 6 months raising funding before getting the project off the ground in November. TopLine went live with its public beta on January 30th.
In an announcement for the public beta, Ronald wrote: "At TopLine our goal is to reward users for the time they spend online. TopLine is a simple browser add-on. TopLine replaces ads on the websites you visit with ads from our network. Advertisers pay us and we share the revenue with you!"
TopLine rewards users for the time they spend online, but it also aims to increase effectiveness of web advertising. While traditional ad networks allow brands and agencies to display ads on network of partner sites, TopLine's method of advertising allows for brands and agencies to reach potential customers on any website they visit.
